Office allocates over 1.6 bln. birr to renovate over 30,000kms roads

More than 1.6 billion birr is allocated for renovation of over 30,000km roads across the country over the current Ethiopian budget year, the Ethiopian Roads Fund Office said.

 Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Team Senior Expert with the Office, Abebe Eshetu said maintenance of the roads will be undertaken in nine regions and 60 urban areas.

Abebe said the amount of budget earmarked for the same purpose is equivalent to that of the previous budget year.

He said the Office had renovated over 28,000km roads during the previous Ethiopian budget year. The achievement is 96 per cent of the set target to repair more than 29,000km roads over the reported period.

Some 1.37 billion birr of the over 1.4 billion birr allocated for the renovation of the roads was utilized and this is 93 per cent of the total budget.

Hawassa and Wolkite towns as well as Amhara and Benishangul Gumuz States had registered commendable results in their performances with regard to the renovation of the roads.
